Boat leading, Sheaf of Paddy behind
The number of voting centers in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election is 289. Of those results of 140 centers are received so far unofficially. After counting the votes Awami League is leading in the race of mayoral post election. There Awami League backed candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek with symbol of ‘boat’ is leading with 84 thousand 816 votes. BNP mayoral aspirant Nazrul Islam Manju with 'sheaf of paddy' bagged 57 thousand 760 votes.
Earlier, voting in Khulna City Corporation election concluded with some sporadic incidents. Vote counting is still going on.
The voting took place from 8 am to 4 pm on Tuesday without any interruption.
BNP nominated mayor candidate Nazrul Islam Manju who is running in the election with party symbol ‘Sheaf of paddy’ exercised his voting rights at Rahima Khatun Government Primary School under ward number 27 of the city at 8:10 am. After casting his vote he alleged that BNP candidate’s polling agents were forced to out from 30 centers. The situation of polling centers was very bad. Voters were frightened. Many were afraid of coming to the polling centers fearing violence.
Manju expressed his fear that the Awami League may try to win the election through vote dacoity. He said that if that happens then he will not accept the election.
On the other hand, Awami League nominated mayor candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek who is running for party symbol ‘Boat’ cast his vote at Pioneer Girls School under ward number 22 of the city. After casting his vote he said to the newsmen, I have belief that the city dwellers will give me the chance to serve them for the last time. I will accept the result whatever it will.
About BNP candidate’s allegation he said, the voting has begun just now. I have not seen any unease situation. But by this time BNP made the allegation. They have ill motive certainly.
Meanwhile, Presiding Officer suspended voting at two centers for casting forge votes. Besides, miscreants vandalized some election campaign centers of BNP mayor candidate. There was allegation of beating and hacking of two election agents of Manju. 85 ballot papers were trashed for allegedly giving forge votes for boat. Presence of female voters was greater than the male voters.
