Khaleda Zia to be taken to BSMMUH tomorrow if she wishes
Inspector General of Prisons Syed Iftekhar Uddin said, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital is the treatment providing highest government institution. We will bring Khaleda Zia to BSMMUH tomorrow (Tuesday). We have directed hospital authority to be prepared. But she will be taken there if she wishes. There is a matter of her willingness.
He said these at a press conference at the prison directorate on Monday.
Syed Iftekhar said, according to the jail code there is no chance to take treatment from private hospital after expending government money. If there is any lack of facility in the government hospital then the question of referring to private hospital comes.
He also said, if government wants then it can allow treatment to anybody in private hospital. But it should be fixed that who and how he will bear the expense.
On June 5 Khaleda Zia suddenly fell on the ground and became unconscious. Later four personal physicians of Khaleda Zia visited her in the jail and examined her. They said that Khaleda Zia might have suffered mild stroke. They also recommended for her better treatment at the United Hospital.
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was awarded five years imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was taken to the old central jail in Nazimuddin Road on February 8 and still passing her days there.
