BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is not able to walk on her own at present. Family members of Khaleda Zia visited her in the jail on Saturday and aftermath they said that she is unable to walk on her own. Earlier she used to meet the visitors walking on her own but at present she is seriously ill.

He said these at a press conference at the party central office in Nayapaltan in the capital on Sunday. He urged the government to let Khaleda Zia receive treatment at the United Hospital according to her choice without any delay.

Mirza Fakhrul said, Khaleda Zia has confidence on United Hospital. She has no confidence on other hospitals. She will not receive treatment in other places. She was kept imprisoned due to political reasons. But no political attitude is being shown to her. She was three times elected prime minister. She was never defeated in parliamentary election. Government is showing inhuman attitude to her.

The BNP leaders said, we went to meet her yesterday, on the occasion of Eid day. But the government disallowed us to see her following political vengeance. The government has confined our party chief with ill motivation based on false and baseless case. She will be freed following movement and struggle.

Responding to a question Mirza Fakhrul said, Khaleda Zia was kept alone. She was forced to live with cats, rats and cockroaches. So her condition has deteriorated. The pain of her waist and transplanted knee has spread throughout her body. She cannot walk. We demand her treatment within today.

It is mentionable that brother of Khaleda Zia Shamim Iskander earlier submitted an application to the home ministry for taking measures for treatment with their own cost at United Hospital. But the government suggested her to take treatment at Combined Military Hospital and Khaleda Zia refused the proposal, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
