7 out of world’s best 10 garments factories in Bangladesh: Tofael
Commerce Minister Tofael Ahmed said, seven out of world’s best ten garments factories certified by United States Green Building Council (USGBC) are situated in Bangladesh. So far 67 factories were certified as green factories by USGBC. In addition nearly 300 green garments factories are under construction.
He delivered the information while responding to a written question of treasury bench member M Abdul Latif in the parliament in the question answering session on Monday.
Tofael Ahmed said, there is no specific provision regarding green factory according to labor act and labor regulations. But according to the compliance report from January to December, 2017 by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment, the number of A grade readymade garments factories is 436 and the number is 228 for B grade factories.
He said, efforts are going on to ensure compliance after gradually considering the readymade garments factories as environment friendly and green factory.
He also said, there are commercial wing in the 21 missions in the world. Of those, 9 missions have failed to achieve the target of first four months in the 2017-18 fiscal. Letters have been issued to the concerned officials of the missions from Export Promotion Bureau so that we can take necessary action to promote our activities.
The Commerce Minister said, the government has different plans to make all conscious including the businessmen to face the challenge of international trade. Trainings are being provided to concerned people from the WTO cell to face the risk. Six training programs and more than one workshop were arranged in this fiscal for all concerned like businessmen, trade related officials and university teachers to face the risk of international trade.
