Govt cooperating EC for holding fair election: Quader
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, Gazipur City Corporation election will be free and fair. Government will not interfere in this election. Government is cooperating the Election Commission (EC) for holding a fair election.
He said these at a press conference at Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi on Monday.
Obaidul Quader said, such a big election is going to be held but there was no incident of violence. A peaceful atmosphere is prevailing in Gazipur. Government is cooperating EC to organize an independent and authoritarian election. We are obeying the constitution vividly.
He said, Prime Minister said that she want a fair and credible election. There is no history of questionable and stigmatized election under the rule of Awami League. But people of the country cannot forget the Magura by-election and the election of 15th
February 1996 under the BNP government. BNP in their term made the election questionable by vote robbing.
Responding to a question Quader said, if BNP wins election then they said EC is neutral but in case of their defeat they raised allegation of partisan against the commission. To make them happy they should be made winner in the election. Otherwise they will play the old record of falsehood.
He said that election will be held in Gazipur like the elections earlier held in Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur and Khulna.
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanok, organizing secretary Ahmed Hossain, Enamul Haque Shamim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and others were present during the occasion.
