‘I have found the opportunity to do something for the country, to utilize this I am running in election’, said Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
The captain of Bangladesh One Day International cricket team faced the news media for the first time after taking decision to participate in eleventh parliament election for the ruling party Awami League. At the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla stadium he said these on Tuesday.
The one day series is going to begin from December 9 against West Indies. There was uncertainty over Mashrafe’s participation in the series due to election. But brushing aside that he has taken the decision to play. The tigers’ captain also made sure about his participation in the warm up match against the Caribbeans scheduled to be held on December 6.
At the beginning the 35 years old star said that he is facing the newsmen so that there should not be any word regarding election while the game is on. He said, the questions should be asked right now by not placing those during the ongoing game.
The question was asked about displacing focus on cricket due to participation in election. In response Mashrafe said, I will think about election after completion of the series against West Indies. I will pay my total attention to the game till December 14.
About inspiration for election Mashrafe said, about 7 to 8 months remaining for the World Cup. After the World Cup election will come after four and half years later. So this election is an opportunity for me. Honorable Prime Minister has given me the chance to do some work for my area and I want to utilize that.
