BNP wants army deployment in three city elections
BNP proposed for army deployment in the upcoming three city corporation elections. Besides they submitted five more proposals to Election Commission (EC).
BNP standing committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan said this to the newsmen after holding meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Other BNP leaders including Aman Ullah Aman and Imran Saleh Prince were present at that time.
The 5 proposals given by BNP are- army deployment, not arresting and creating panic among the leaders and workers, not appointing voting and administrative officials under political identity of Awami League, keeping ministers, MPs and other VIPs far from election campaign, CCTV installation in the voting centers and preventing irregularities that take place in Gazipur and Khulna city corporation elections.
Moyeen Khan said, we still have confidence on EC. But there is lack of confidence in the minds of people. We hope that EC will perform effective role in the three city elections.
Upholding EC’s stance to the newsmen Election Commissioner Brigadier General Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury (rtd) said, there is no need of army deployment in city elections. CC cameras were also used in Gazipur. Those will be used in some centers in the city elections.
He said, we have asked BNP to submit a list of polling agents. We will ask police so that they are not going to be harassed.
Shahadat Hossain said, they also have submitted a list. We will look into the matter whether anybody was arrested without specific reason. We have directed police for not arresting anyone without warrant.
The elections will take place in Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet City Corporations on July 30. After getting nominations the candidates are busy with their election campaign.
