‘No army in City election, CC TV for vote centers’
Election Commissioner Brigadier Gneral Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury (rtd) said, the Election Commission has no plan to deploy army in the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election. But all out preparation to hold the election in a free, fair and impartial atmosphere has been taken. In this regard work is under way to bring the vote centers under CC TV coverage.
He said these while speaking to the newsmen at Khulna circuit house on Sunday.
The Election Commissioner said, voters will be able to cast their votes for their desired candidates without any hindrance in the KCC election. In this regard adequate law enforcing agency members and BGB will be deployed. Directives were given to the concerned officials including local administration and regional election officials so that the candidates can run their campaign in a normal way.
Earlier he held a divisional coordination meeting with different administrative officials at the conference room of Khulna circuit house.
In the meeting Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said, there is a plan to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in a ward or 4-5 centers in KCC election on experimental basis and to aware people. There will be 12 law enforcing agency members with arms in each center and 22 members in the each risky center. 13-14 executive magistrates from district administration are working in the field. BGB will be deployed in Khulna city from May 13. Moreover RAB, police will perform their duties in the election field.
Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia, Khulna range DIG Didar Ahmed, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Amin Ul Ahsan, RAB 6 Commander Khondoker Rafiqul Islam and other high officials of the administration were present in the meeting.
The Khulna and Gazipur City Corporation election will be held on May 15.
