Over 150 detained in RAB anti-narcotics drive in capital
Over 150 people were detained in anti-narcotics drive conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Bihari camp in capital’s Mohammadpur.
The drive began at 10 am on Saturday. RAB media wing Director Mufti Mahmud led the drive. RAB Dog Squad was used in the drive.
Mufti Mahmud said, we are conducting the drive in the area where a good number of drug addicts are residing. We have a list of drug traders of the area. As well as we are distributing leaflets to increase public awareness. We have detained several people during the drive. They will be scrutinized. Action will be taken against those traced as involved in drug trading.
While answering about the quantity of seized drugs he said, several teams are working jointly. So we cannot comment on the quantity of drugs at the moment. It can be said after the drive.
On Thursday in front of Ananda cinema hall at Farmgate Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal declared commencement of anti-narcotics drive in Dhaka. But the drive began earlier throughout the country. More 50 drug traders were killed in gunfight during the drive.
On anti-narcotics drive the Home Minister said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared zero tolerance against drugs as she declared earlier against militants and terrorism. We have formulated a list secretly through coordination with all intelligence agencies including department of narcotics control. The drive is going on according to the direction. The drug traders will be brought to book according to the list. Nobody will be spared.
