New gas zone found at Begumganj in Noakhali
Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) has found new gas zone in the gas field of Begumganj in Noakhali.
BAPEX Managing Director AKM Ruhul Islam Patwari confirmed the information to Rtv online on Monday.
He said, it is a work over project. It existed earlier and now the work over is being made freshly. Gas extraction from the zone has begun on experimental basis from Monday morning.
Mentioning that it is at the experimental phase, he said, after observation of experimental extraction gas will be supplied from the gas zone to the national grid.
Excavation exploration officials of the project said, fire was set on after observing gas flow in the third zone of the well at 9 am. After recording the gas flow for the next two days it will be made sure that how much gas is there and how profitable the extraction will be.
A report was submitted to Perobangla saying that there was gas reserve in the well after primary observation. Based on the report BAPEX officials took initiatives to dig the project.
After analyzing the samples collected through 2D dimensional seismic survey in the Cairn identified project area, the three and half kilometers deep exploration well was excavated.
According to BAPEX information, if the project is successfully completed then gas can be supplied to the national grid after Eid. This gas will play an important role for expanding industry and commerce in the country including Noakhali.
The concerned people also hope that this gas will help to mitigate severe gas crisis in Noakhali, Feni and Laksmipur.
