New wage board formed for garments workers
State Minister for Labor and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu has said, the government has declared wage board for Ready Made Garments industry workers. This board will recommend within six months after fixing the salaries for workers. After fixing the minimum salaries it will be declared by December.
He said these at a press briefing at the Labor and Employment ministry conference room at the secretariat on Sunday.
The State Minister said, in the new wage board representative from owners will be Siddiqur Rahman and Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan will be as representative from workers. Former district judge Syed Aminul Islam will act as Chairman of the permanent board members. Of the members Kazi Saifuddin Ahmed will act as representative from owners and Jatiya Shramik League president Fazlul Haque Montu will represent the workers. Dhaka University Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin will work as neutral member in the committee.
Acting Secretary of Labor and Manpower ministry Afroza Khan, Managing Director of Hamim group AK Azad, BGMEA Vice President Siddiqur Rahman and others also spoke in the press briefing.
Earlier in 2013 the government declared minimum wage for the garments workers. At that time the minimum wage was fixed at 5 thousand 3 hundred taka. According to the labor law there is obligation to declare new salary structure after five years.
