Corruption could not be reduced by increasing salary: Finance Minister
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has said, no government employee is getting salary lower than 16 thousand taka at present. Now some people are doing corruption for their habit and temptation. It is nearly impossible to change this habit or temptation of people. Corruption could not be reduced by increasing their salaries.
He said these at a program organized by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) at Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Thursday.
The Finance Minister said, we have seen in our childhood, teenage period and even in the beginning of our youth that people died because of scarcity of food. But people now a day have died due to poverty, this type of news is not heard. There are fundamental changes in the country, nobody is dying due to poverty. Nobody will lie due to poverty.
He said, as bribery and corruption has turned into habit, we are not getting any remedy. But trend of corruption is less among the members of new generation.
AMA Muhith said, now it is hard to see any small cottage made of leaves or bamboos. Country’s villages have turned into silver color. This scene makes me delighted.
He said, to prevent corruption and flourish virtuous a long term rectitude policy has been taken in Bangladesh.
In the program ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said, some dishonest firms submit different financial reports in different organizations. They submit one type of yearly audit report in the National Board of Revenue and another type in the Stock Exchange. But these should be same.
