High Court orders not to harass BNP workers in Gazipur
The High Court gave verbal directions to the Attorney General for not harassing the leaders and workers, supporters and agents of BNP mayoral candidate in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election. Concerned officials of law enforcing agencies including Inspector General of Police (IGP) were asked to ensure the matter.
Along with this, the court also issued rule asking to know why not the direction should be given to follow the guideline of Appellate Division for arresting the BNP mayoral candidate, his supporters and campaigners by police and other law enforcing agencies in the GCC election.
Home Secretary, Election Commission, IGP, Gazipur Police Commissioner, Police Super and concerned eight persons were asked to answer the rule within two weeks.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed stood for the writ in the court. Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, AKM Ehsanur Rahman, Sanjeed Siddique and other associated him. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder were for the state.
A writ was filed in the High Court on May 31 seeking direction to stop arrest and harassment of BNP leaders and workers in Gazipur. BNP mayoral aspirant in GCC election Hasan Uddin Sarkar filed the writ. In the writ appeal was made to issue direction or rule for not to arrest or harass BNP activists violating the Appellate Division direction.
