Police is the prime barrier in Khulna: Nazrul
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said that police is the prime barrier for holding a peaceful Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election.
His allegation came in after holding meeting with Election Commissioner at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Sunday.
Nazrul Islam Khan said, earlier on May 10 we visited the Election Commissioner and said arrest and harassment over BNP leaders and activists were going on before the KCC election. He assured us for taking action. But he only assured not implemented the task.
He said, we urged the Election Commissioner to take action so that BNP leaders and activists are not harassed or arrested. But he said, the persons who have cases against their names are being arrested.
The BNP leader said, there are political cases against our party leaders and activists including chairperson and secretary general. Arrest should not be made upon case filed against certain person, it needs arrest warrant to make arrest.
Mentioning that 42 leaders and activists were arrested by police from Saturday to Sunday he said, as the day for election is nearer the number of arrest are mounting.
Meanwhile, Election Commission has taken all out preparations for holding the KCC election on May 15 (Tuesday). The voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm on the day without any break.
