National election schedule in October
Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed said, national parliament election schedule may be declared in the last week of October. In this purpose order was given to prepare voter list of 300 parliamentary seats into compact discs.
He said these to the newsmen after holding commission meeting at Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday.
Other Election Commissioners were present in the meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.
The EC Secretary said, order was given in the field level to end all types of preparation keeping ahead the eleventh national parliamentary election. All preparation will be concluded before the schedule. Government declared March 1 as the Voter List Day for every year. Direction was given in the field level to observe the day with enthusiasm. Committees were formed to observe the day in every district and upazila.
He said, EC decided to use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the forthcoming three city elections (Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barishal). EVM will be used in 10 centers in Barishal and two each in Rajshahi and Sylhet. EVM will also be used in the forthcoming Cox’s Bazar municipal election.
Helaluddin Ahmed said, upgrade of voter list will not be made by going home to home before the next national parliament election. If anybody wants to be voter by coming to the election office then he will be listed. It is a continuous process.
He said, though the government decided to identify transgender people as third gender but the matter will not be in the voter list before the coming eleventh parliamentary election. But they can exercise voting rights as male or female. After submitting application they will be enlisted as third gender.
