Schedule not possible but election can be deferred: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said, it is not possible to defer election schedule at any way. But if all the political parties are agreed then election can be deferred. Otherwise election will be held abiding by the constitution.
He said these at the inaugural program of training for the trainers over EVM use keeping ahead the upcoming eleventh national parliament election at ETI bhaban of Election Commission on Tuesday.
The CEC said, there is no alternative of EVM to maintain the health of votes given by the voters. There are different problems in ballot papers. To bypass those EVM will be introduced.
He said, there were legal complexities regarding EVM. We have overcome those. The President has issued ordinance. EVM committee was formed headed by Election Commissioner Brigadier General Shahadat Hossain (retd). But EVM will be used in urban areas primarily.
KM Nurul Huda said, election has to held based on opinions of all political parties and according to the constitution. In that case there are different programs in January such as Bishwa Ijtema. At that time law enforcement agency members from different corners of the country have to deploy there. So election cannot be possible at that time.
About using Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the parliament election he said, this time EVM will be used in a smaller range.
To the Polling Officers he said, political leaders may talk about EVM. But don’t be angry with them rather persuade them about EVM.
