Aspirants who get back candidatures
The Election Commission has so far cleared several candidates to contest in the upcoming general election slated for December 30.
Aspirants’ legality declaration came after holding appeal hearing at the commission’s Agargaon office in the city on Thursday morning.
Nominations of Golam Maula Roni from Patuakhali-3, Morshed Miltan from Bogura-7 and Md Tamijuddin from Dhaka-20 were declared legal. All of them are vying for the polls with BNP ticket.
Besides, the candidates whose names were cleared off the rejection list are Md Abdul Mazid from Jhenaidah-2, Md Afsar Ali from Satkhira-2, Faridul Kabir Talukder Shamim from Jamalpur-4, , Jahirul Islam Mintu from Madaripur-1, Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury from Sylhet-3, Fazlur Rahman from Joypurhat-1, Md Abidur Rahman Khan from Manikganj-2, Md Ainal Haque from Sirajganj-3, Md Mahbub Alam from Gazipur-2.
A total of 543 petitions were filed with the election commission to get back their candidacies for running in the general polls.
Of those, appeal hearing on 160 petitions will be held on Thursday, 150 on Friday and the rest of 233 on Saturday.
The Election Commission has cancelled 786 nominations during its scrutiny process.
The last date for withdrawing candidacy is December 9 while December 10 is set for allocating electoral symbol.
