Rice prices to reduce within next week: Commerce Minister
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, there are huge stocks of paddy and rice in our granaries. The stocks are more than the stocks of the last year. So there is no reason to think about rice. The prices of rice will come down within the next week.
He said these in response to the questions of newsmen after paying tributes to the grave of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with flowers at Tungipara in Gopalganj on Friday.
The minister said, during the period of election there was problem of transport for two to three days. For this reason the prices of rice were increased.
Tipu Munshi said, me and Food Minister held meeting on Thursday with the mill owners, paddy merchants and others. They promised that the prices of rice will come down within a week.
He said, prices of coarse rice remain steady but the prices of fine rice have gone slightly up. Most of the common people of the country eat coarse rice. For that reason our target was set to keep the prices of coarse rice stable. That is remaining. Even then we are trying to control the prices of rice. We hope that it will be solved.
Earlier in the afternoon the newly appointed Commerce Minister paid homage to the grave of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with flowers. Later he offered recites from Fateha and munajat for salvation of the departed soul of Bangabandhu.
