Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said that the drive to evict the illegal occupants from his area will begin from the next week.

He said this while visiting the Suti canal adjacent to Uttar Badda area in the capital on Tuesday.

The Mayor said, our drive to evict the illegal occupants from the canal and water stream areas under DNCC will begin from next week like the way drives are being conducted on the banks of the Turag and Buriganga rivers. No illegal grabbers will be spared.

Atiqul Islam said, I want to do all out work after breaking protocols for the service of city dwellers. I have called the MD of WASA and urged to work unitedly. The Chief Engineer of WASA accompanied us while visiting the canal. We altogether are trying to relief the city dwellers from water stagnation so far we can. As the rainy season has come, so we are discussing about what can be done in this short period.

He said, I have seen piles of wastage materials including plastics are hindering the flow of water in the canal. We will take steps for ensuring water flow like cleaning the canal and excavation. As well as, measures will be taken for mandatory use of mini bins in the nearby shops to ensure that nobody drops waste materials in the canal.

The Mayor also said, cleanliness activities will be conducted with participation students from March 17, so that everybody after being conscious cleans their nearby areas. A clean and beautiful city can be built if everybody becomes conscious.
