HC stays investigation of Shahidul Alam’s case
The High Court has stayed the investigation into the case filed under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) act against photographer Shahidul Alam for three months.
The High Court bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik Al Jalil delivered the order on Thursday with rule.
Lawyers AF Hasan Arif, Sara Hossain, Md. Asaduzzaman and Jyotirmoy Barua took part in the hearing for Shahidul Alam. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman stood for the state.
The writ petition was filed on March 3 challenging the legality of investigation process of the case. In the hearing of the writ the court summoned for documents of the case on Wednesday. As the documents reached in the court from Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday, the order was delivered after the hearing.
On August 5, last year Shahidul Alam was picked up by Detective Branch (DB) of police from his Dhanmondi residence in the capital. He was shown arrest in a case under ICT act on August 6. After passing about three and half months in jail he was released on bail on November 20.
