Banani high rise building fire; 7 killed

The news of death of seven persons including a Sri Lankan national has come till at present in the fire that broke out at a high rise building at Banani named FR Tower.

The information was confirmed by Officer in Charge of Banani police station Farman Ali.

The deceased are- Sri Lankan national Niras Chandra, Mamun, Abdullah Al Faruk, Maksudur, Parvez Sajjad, Amena Yasmin and Monir.

It was informed from the control room of Banani police station- of the deceased, Mamun, Maksudur and Monir died at United Hospital, Amena at the Apollo Hospital, Parvez at Banani clinic and Niras Chandra died at Kurmitola General Hospital. Besides, Abdullah Al Faruk died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

In the incident 30 other injured were also rescued and admitted to different hospitals in the capital. Most of the injured were admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Eyewitnesses said that most of the injured were hurt while jumping off the high rise FR Tower and adjacent buildings to save their lives. One person fell on the ground as he could not hold the rope while getting down and later died.

The fire at the 22 storey building FR Tower broke out at around 12:45 pm on Thursday. It originated from the 8th floor. Fire Service department as well as army, navy and air force members joined the rescue operation.
