Order to evict illegal structures from banks of Karnaphuli
The High Court has ordered Chattogram port Chairman to remove all the illegal structures from the banks of Karnaphuli river. It also ordered to submit the report within 30 days in this regard.
The High Court bench of Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal delivered the order while hearing a petition on Tuesday. The court also fixed the date for next hearing on May 19.
Lawyer Manzil Murshid took part in the hearing for the petition. He said to the newsmen, we have filed a petition on Tuesday on behalf of Human Rights Peace for Bangladesh following sudden halt of eviction drive on the banks of Karnaphuli river. We mentioned in the appeal that according to the previous order five defendants including the Deputy Commissioner were directed to evict the illegal establishment. But suddenly the drive was stopped.
He said, at present the illegal establishments are situated in the area owned by the port. We have appealed for giving an order to the port Chairman. The court has ordered port Chairman and port authority to submit the report within 30 days after completion of eviction drive according to the survey report and RS.
