3 killed as Maitree Express pushes vatvati

Three people were killed at Koyelgati area under Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj district as Dhaka bound Maitree Express train from Kolkata pushed a vatvati.

The accident took place at around 1:30 pm on Saturday.

One of the victims was identified. His name was Surja Mia (35), son of Raham Ali of Kamarkhand Barakura village. He was the vatvati driver. The other two were the passengers of the vehicle, they were cow traders.

In this regard Fire Service officer Nazir said, the vatvati running on shallow engine was crossing the rail line with cows. At that time the Matree Express pushed the vatvati. The vatvati driver died on the spot. Another five cow traders were also injured in the accident. Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Kamarkhand upazila health complex. There two cow traders died. Two cows were also killed in the accident.
