HC orders to remove 52 adulterated products from market

The High Court has ordered removal of 52 adulterated products from the market as soon as possible. The concerned authorities are ordered to submit report after removing the products from the market within next 10 days.

The court said, these products have to be destroyed so that those cannot go into the hands of any third party. Besides, the court has ordered to take legal actions against the product producing firms.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil delivered the order on Sunday after hearing a writ petition about substandard and adulterated 52 products of different firms.

Earlier two officers of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) and Food Safety Authority came to the court to give explanation about these substandard products. These two officers are- Director of BSTI Engineer SM Ishak Ali and Director of Food Safety Authority Dr. Sahadev Chandra Saha.

Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan took part in the hearing for the writ petitioner. Barrister Sarkar MR Hasan represented BSTI while Advocate Faridul Islam stood for Food Safety Authority.

The High Court summoned two officers of BSTI and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority to give explanation whether measures were taken or not to seize the products, withdraw the products from the market or to stop production.

Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan on behalf of Conscious Consumer Society filed the writ on the ground of public interest.
