Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of gas for double burner from 800 taka to 975 taka for domestic use. On the other hand price of gas for single burner was fixed at 925 taka from 750 taka monthly. The new prices will be affective from July 1.
BERC announced this price hike at a press conference at its Karwan Bazar office on Sunday.
Per cubic meter gas price was increased by 2.42 taka and fixed at 9.40 taka. The earlier price was 7.38 taka. Earlier, a public hearing was held to increase the prices of gas. After that the decision was informed in the press conference.
In February this year Petrobangla and gas distribution companies proposed to adjust the price. Those organizations proposed to increase gas prices by 102 percent.
At that time the companies said that the price has increased after connecting Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to national grid.
But BERC said that gas prices were fixed considering the public hearing and logic.
In the press conference BERC Chairman Monowar Islam said, we had increased the prices of gas in 2017 last. Again we decided to increase the price. The commission always fixes the gas price considering the interest of customers and industries.
