Rohingya people oppressed by Myanmar forces and stranded in Bangladesh have demonstrated at Ukhiya under Cox’s Bazar district to press home their five-point demand including repatriation in Rakhine, their homeland.
The gathering led by Arakan Rohingya Society for Human Rights was organized at extension of camp-4 at Kutupalong in Ukhiya upazila on Sunday morning.
In the gathering protest was expressed over the incidents of inhuman atrocities committed by the Myanmar forces on Rohingya communities. The speakers also expressed anger over the ‘drama’ that Myanmar has staged in the name of repatriation.
They demanded trial of Myanmar authority for Rohingya repression including ensuring citizenship, recovering their lands, strengthening international security and safe repatriation.
General Secretary of Arakan Rohingya Society for Human Rights Syed Ullah said, we have performed peaceful demonstration. Five-point demand was placed in the gathering. Besides, we have offered munajat for Bangladesh government.
Officer in Charge of Ukhiya police station Abul Mansur said, the Rohingya refugees staged peaceful demonstration for one and half hours from the morning.
About 8 to 10 thousand Rohingyas were present in the gathering. Rohinyas observed the demonstration program with human chain, procession and munajat demanding safe repatriation in different camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf.
