Power prices have been raised one again. At the retail level the price has been raised by 5.3 per cent in an average and is fixed at 7 taka 13 paisa per unit.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the decision formally on Thursday afternoon.
BERC said that the prices will be effective from March 1. Earlier power prices were hiked in several phases during the tenure of incumbent government.
The hearing on proposal of power price hike began on November 28, 2019 at the auditorium of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). Public hearing was arranged on the issue of BERC’s proposal of power price hike.
During the hearing Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) proposed for power price hike by 23.27 per cent at the wholesale rate.
On the other hand, BERC’s Technical Evaluation Committee opined that it needed 19.50 per cent price hike for the electricity.
