By election: AL wins in Nasirnagar, JP in Sundarganj
In the parliamentary by-election of Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) constituency Awami League (AL) candidate BM Farhad Hossain Sangram with symbol of boat was elected. While in Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) constituency Jatiya Party (JP) candidate Shamim Hayder Patwary with symbol of plough was elected defeating the Awami League candidate.
Assistant Returning Officer Sahfiqur Rahman said that in Nasirnagar Awami League candidate BM Farhad Hossain Sangram gained 82 thousand 296 votes after counting ended in all the 74 voting centers.
His nearest competitor Rejuan Ahmed of Jatiya Party got 33 thousand 584 votes. Another candidate Ashraful Haque of Islami Oikyajote got 2287 votes. Total one lakh 19 thousand 229 votes were casted from 2 lakh 14 thousand voters.
Three candidates competed in the election of Nasirnagar-1 constituency which fell vacant following death of veteran Awami League leader and Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sayedul Haque.
Meanwhile in the by-election of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) constituency Jatiya Party candidate Barrister Shamim Hayder Patwary with symbol of plough bagged 78 thousand 926 votes from the declared all 109 centers.
His nearest competitor Afroza Bari of Awami League with symbol of boat got 68 thousand 913 votes. Besides, Shariful Islam from Ganafront with symbol of fish got 676 votes and Zia Zaman Khan of National Peoples Party with symbol of mango got 399 votes.
Four candidates competed in the election of Sundrganj constituency which fell vacant following death of Awami League lawmaker Golam Mostafa Ahmed.
