10 candidates to contest with Sheikh Hasina

Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will contest from two constituencies in the upcoming eleventh national parliament election. She has become the candidate from Gopalganj-3 and Rangpur-6 constituencies. In these two seats total 10 candidates from different parties will contest with her. Election Commission has declared them as valid candidates.

In Gopalganj-3 (Tungipara and Kotalipara) constituency there are five valid candidates. Nomination paper of one candidate was cancelled. In this constituency BNP’s SM Afzal Hossain is going to contest with Sheikh Hasina. Also there are, Md. Maruf Sheikh of Islami Andolon Bangladesh. There are two independent candidates Enamul Haque and Uzir Fakir. BNP’s SM Jilani’s nomination paper was cancelled. His nomination was cancelled for three reasons- as there was no signature of his and the income tax office in the income tax return. There was no educational certificate and also there was mismatch between the signature of party secretary general and the sample signature for the nomination. For these reason Returning Officer Mukhlesur Rahman declared the nomination paper cancelled.

In Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency nomination papers of seven candidates declared valid. One candidate’s nomination was cancelled. The two valid Awami League candidates are Sheikh Hasina and Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. Others are- Md. Qamruzzaman of Communist Party of Bangladesh, Humayun Ijaj of National Peoples Party, Khalilur Rahman and Saiful Islam of BNP and  AGM Masud Sarkar Majnu of Bangladesh Nationalist Front. Nomination of Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Belal Hossain was cancelled for hiding information in the affidavit.

The eleventh national parliament election is scheduled to be held on December 30 next.
