Upazila chairman shot dead in Rangamati

The chairman of Naniarchar upazila under Rangamati district Shaktiman Chakma was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants.

The miscreants opened fire on him at around 11 am on Thursday while he was heading to upazila council office. His assistant Rupam Chakma (35) was also injured in the incident.

Rangamati Police Super confirmed the matter to Rtv online.

He said, the incident of killing took place in the morning. Police recovered the dead body and sent it to the Rangamati hospital for autopsy. The dead body will be handed over to the relatives after autopsy. Nobody yet to file complain over the incident. Action will be taken after getting complain.

Shaktiman Chakma was living in the quarter of upazila council premises. When he was coming to office from there on a motorcycle the miscreants opened fire on him and left the place hurriedly. He was rushed to the upazila health complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead.

The slain Shaktiman Chakma was a top leader of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS-MN Larma faction) central committee.

Assistant Secretary of JSS Prashanta Chakma held United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) responsible for the killing.

But UPDF spokesman Niran Chakma brushed aside the allegation and told Rtv online that it is totally false and baseless. He said, Shaktiman was killed in intra party feud. UPDF has no association in this connection.
