Bloodshed again in Rangamati, 5 killed in brushfire

Within 24 hours of killing Naniarchar upazila council chairman Advocate Shaktiman Chakma five were also killed in brushfire on Friday in Rangamati. They were returning from taking part at the funeral of Shaktiman Chakma. Eight more were also injured in the incident. The deceased and the injured were taken to the Rangamati sadar hospital.

Top leader of Chattogram Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction) Sudarshan Chakma said that process was underway to send three of the injured to Chattogram for better treatment.

The deceased are: chief of democratic group of United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) Tapan Jyoti Chakma alias Barma, central member of Juba Samity Tanay Chakma, Mahalchhari upazila unit Juba Samity president Sujan Chakma, Setu Lal Chakma and microbus driver Md. Sujit.

Rangamati Police Super Alamgir Kabir told Rtv online, the deceased and injured were returning home after joining the funeral of Shaktiman Chakma. When the vehicle reached at Kengkrachhari of Betchhari area the miscreants opened fire indiscriminately on the passengers. At the moment four died on the spot. Nine were injured in the incident. Later another died while undergoing treatment.

Liton Chakma, the responsible person for media wing of the party confirmed the death of Tapan Jyoti Chakma.

He held UPDF responsible for the killings and said, they have established the regime of terrorism by killing Tapan Jyoti Chakma within 24 hours of killing Naniarchar upazial chairman Shaktiman Chakma.
