Hawker free road, footpath during Ramadan: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said, to ease traffic congestion traffic department was asked to keep the roads and footpaths free from hawkers.

His direction came from a special meeting organized to manage traffic and control hawkers keeping ahead the month of Ramadan at the DMP headquarters on Saturday.  

Asaduzzaman Mia said, DMP have taken special security arrangement centering the roads, shopping malls, stations and terminals on the occasion of holy Ramadan. Controlling traffic congestion is not possible alone for the traffic police. It needs cooperation from all to control it. Legal action will be taken against those who creates obstacle keeping construction materials on the roads.

Directing the high officials of traffic department the police Commissioner said, to make the traffic management active the on duty officials should present in their designated spots after office breaking time so that general people can reach their destinations with safety. If necessary the officials should perform their duties after iftar to ease traffic congestion.

He gave different directions to the traffic department to make the roads free from hawkers. The directions include, special monitoring ensuring presence of senior officials during the period of office beginning and breaking, crime branch should be active along with traffic police to maintain intersection management, not allowing car parking on the roads in front of shopping malls, not allowing hawkers to sit freshly on roads and footpaths and others.

It was mentioned in the meeting that rickshaws will not be allowed to enter on rickshaw-free roads and those will not be allowed to gather in front of shopping malls and at the point of intersections.

The DMP Commissioner sought cooperation from all specially performing duties with professionalism from police department to maintain the traffic jam at a tolerable level.

High officials from traffic police department were present during the meeting.
