Hill slides kill 4 including 3 of a family in Bandarban

Four people were killed including three members of a family in hill slides due to heavy downpour in Bandarban district.

The deceased three family members, who were killed on Tuesday noon, were Md. Hanif (30), his wife Rezia Begum (25) and their daughter Halima Akter (3). They were the inhabitants of Kalaiya Chhari of Sarai union under Lama upazila.

Earlier at around 12 pm Pratima Rani Das (50) was killed at Kalaghata area in Bandarban town.

Confirming their death Fire Service Deputy Director Ikbal Hossain said, dead body of Pratima Rani Das was recovered from Kalaghata. But the dead bodies of other three were yet to be recovered. Efforts are going on to recover the bodies.

Sarai police post in-charge Sub Inspector Kashem Ali said, police, fire service workers and locals are engaged in the efforts of recovering the three dead bodies of a same family at Kalaiya Chhari.

Deputy Commissioner Aslam Hossain said, landslides occurred in different parts of Ruma and sadar upazila. The inhabitants who are residing in the risky places are asked to leave the areas and move to a safer place.

It is mentionable, due to heavy rainfall and onrush flow of upstream water for the last 24 hours, the low lying areas of Bandarban town were inundated as river water of Sangu and Matamuhuri rose. Incidents of hill slides occurred in district town and Ruma upazila due to the incessant rain.

On Tuesday morning road communication snapped with Ruma upazila due to hill slide on road at Daliyanpara area on Bandarban-Ruma road.

The road communication between Bandarban and other parts of the country was snapped from the morning as a bridge went under water at Pulpara area on Bandarban-Rangamati road.

Deputy commissioner Aslam Hossain said that to avert the casualties the district administration and municipality authority are miking in the town and upazila.
