The Textbook Festival is being observed across the country since Tuesday morning.

The government is distributing free textbooks among millions of schoolchildren at schools and madrasas across the country on the first day of the New Year 2019.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the handing over of newly printed books among students at Azimpur Government Girls’ School and College in the city around 9:30 am.

Later, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman Fizar opened the distribution of textbooks to pre-primary and primary students at Dhaka University’s central playground around 11 am.

Earlier on December 24, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the distribution of free textbooks.

A total of 35,21,97,822 copies of printed textbooks will be distributed among the students of primary and secondary schools, Ebtedai and Dakhil madrasas and technical institutes, according to officials of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).
