It’s a fault if rice price goes up or down by two taka: Food Minister

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said, we have attained self sufficiency in food. Now it needs to ensure safe, adulteration free and nutritious food production. Food department is a sophisticated department. It’s a fault if price of rice goes up by two taka or goes down by two taka.
He said these at a view exchange meeting with field level officers of Rajshahi division of food department at Naogaon circuit house on Tuesday.
Sadhan Chandra Majumder said, the government is working with the vision of making a hunger free, poverty free and healthy nation under efficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In this connection everybody has to work with honesty and sincerity. We want to promote the food sector following directions of the Prime Minister with honesty and sincerity.
On pretext of the recent rice price hike he said, rice prices went up by one or two taka for some days as transportation was halted and for dense fog. But due to government’s prompt steps the prices of rice are stable at the moment. To make the food grains market stable, vigilance teams were formed in every districts and 4 in Dhaka following direction from the Prime Minister.
To the food department officers he said, officials have to be alert so that farmers are not harassed as well as for ensuring quality while collecting food grains.
Naogaon Deputy Commissioner Md. Mizanur Rahman presided over the view exchange meeting where Naogaon sadar Member of Parliament Barrister Nizamuddin Jalil John, Member of Parliament from Naogaon-3 constituency Md. Solim Uddin Tarafder, food ministry Additional Secretary Omar Farukh, food directorate Director General Arifur Rahman Apu and other senior officers were present.
