Meeting-procession banned in capital from February 8

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed ban on carrying arms and explosives, obstructing vehicle movement and holding meeting-procession by occupying roads from 4 am on February 8. The ban will continue until the further notice is given.

DMP came up with the decision through a special notice on Tuesday for the sake of peace, maintaining order and public safety.

The notice said, according to different intelligence, print, electronic and social media sources there may be attempt of subversive activities through creating anarchy by certain persons or groups in the capital centering verdict of an under trial case on February 8.

It also said, as there is liability of maintain law and order and to ensure public safety, therefore I, Md. Asaduzzaman Mia, BPM-Bar PPM, Police Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, according to the responsibility bestowed upon me by the section 28 and 29 of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance number-III/76), I am imposing ban on carrying all kinds of sticks, knives or sharp weapons, explosives and flammable materials from 4 am on February 8 to until further notice. I also declare that no obstacle can be created over movement of people and plying of vehicles and no procession can be hold standing or sitting on roads. I would request for cooperation of all for maintaining discipline, peace and public safety in Dhaka metropolitan area.
