Complexities have been arising one by one to implement different development plans including construction of walkways on two banks of the Buriganga after eviction of illegal structures.
The complexities regarding more than hundred religious structures in the planned development area have not been resolved. There are pending cases in the court for some establishments. So there are confusions about when the walkway construction project will begin after solving the problems.
BIWTA evicted more than five thousand illegal structures from both sides of the Buriganga in six months after ignoring hindrance from different quarters. But the permanent establishment construction work cannot be started. Here the main obstacles are more than hundred religious structures built after grabbing the land of the river.
Complexities to relocate or remove the establishments are yet to be resolved. The administration could not take strict measures as it is a matter of religious sentiment.
Apart from religious structures there are also some cases with other establishments. BIWTA cannot take decision about these establishments as there are writ with the High Court. Discussions were held in the river protection task force meeting for holding dialogue with religious leaders but it could not see the light. But the State Minister for Shipping hopes that the matter can be solved within a short span of time.
The government has requested the leaders of the committees to relocate the religious structures. In this regard necessary financial and technical supports have been offered.
