Former Rangpur Mayor Jhantu passes away

Former Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu passed away at 3:30 pm on Sunday (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).

General Secretary of Rangpur city Awami League Tushar Kanti Mandal confirmed the matter to Rtv online.

Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu was under life support from last Monday at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Jhantu was defeated by Jatiya Party candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa with nearly one lakh vote difference in the last mayoral election of RCC.

Following his sickness on February 1 Jhantu was admitted at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. As his condition deteriorated he was shifted to Dhaka on air ambulance on the same day.

Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu was elected first Mayor of RCC in the election held on December 20, 2012. He was also elected Member of Parliament, Upazila Chairman and Rangpur municipal mayor.
