Viquarunnisa students stage demo demanding its principal’s removal
The students and guardians of Viquarunnisa Noon School and College were staging demonstration demanding the removal of its principal Nazneen Ferdous over the death of a fellow student who committed suicide after being insulted by teachers.
Boycotting the scheduled exams of the day, the students went to the street carrying placards at 10am and took position on Baily Road in front of the school.
Meanwhile, the school administration said the exam-boycotting students will be allowed to take part in the exams later.
In the morning, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid visited the school and talked to the students and guardian.
While talking to the journalists over the matter, he said those, who will be found guilty behind the suicidal incident of a student of Viquarunnisa Noon School and College, will be brought under trial.
Nahid said, “Educational institutions are not allowed to torture any children either mentally or physically.”
“After the investigation, those, who will be found guilty, will be punished,” he added.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe body was formed on Tuesday to investigate the suicide incident of a class-IX student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.
The committee led by Professor Mohammad Yusuf, director of Dhaka Regional Education office, has been asked to submit report within three-day.
Deputy Director Shakhawat Hossain of Dhaka Regional Education office and Dhaka district education officer Benzir Ahmed are the two other members of the committee.
Adhriti Odhikari, daughter of Dilip Odhikari, reportedly committed suicide at her Shantinagar residence in the city on Monday.
The suicidal incident took place as teachers allegedly rebuked Adhriti and her father for carrying mobile phone during examination.
