‘Councilor Akramul Haque was never associated with detested profession like drug trading. Rather he was vocal against all kinds of drug trading including yaba.’

Ayesha Begum, wife of Akramul Haque claimed this at a press conference organized at Cox’s Bazar press club on Friday.

She said, Akram was not killed in gunfight, rather in a planned way by calling from home councilor Akram was murdered.

Aysah said, at 9:30 pm on May 26 last, a government intelligence officer stationed in Teknaf called Akram in the name of land purchase. As he did not return after 11 pm I made several calls on my husband’s number. Each time he made conversation with me while crying.

She said, my husband at last received the phone at 11:32 pm but did not talk. We at that time can hear the conversation at the other end. We hear what a grim time he was passing. How cruelly he was shot and killed. I still can hear the scream of my husband.

Ayesha Begum told newsmen, we support the anti narcotic drive. But want that no innocent people are killed like my husband. No wife becomes husband less like me. No children become father less. I will send the evidences to the Prime Minister. Her activist was never associated with drug trading. We want to prove it even after his death.

She said, my husband’s name is Akramul Haque. Father’s name Abdus Sattar. Inhabitants of Kayuk Khali Para area under Teknaf municipality. But the statement that RAB handed over there the name mentioned Akramul Haque, son of Mozaher Mia. His address is Nazir Para of sadar union. My husband was killed intentionally and mysteriously by making mistake. I want proper investigation and justice.

Slain Akram’s brother Nazrul Islam, Ashraful Islam, Abdur Razzak and two daughters Nahian Haque (11) and Tahia Haque (13) were present in the press conference.

Councilor Akramul Haque was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB on May 26. RAB also claimed that 10 thousand pieces yaba, one pistol, one one-shooter gun, 6 rounds of bullets and one motorcycle were recovered during the operation.
