Aritry's class teacher Hasna Hena arrested
The members of Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested Hasna Hena, a teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, who is accused along with two others of provoking ninth grader Aritry Adhikary to commit suicide.
A team of DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police made the arrest after conducting a raid at her Uttara home in Dhaka on Wednesday night, said Khandaker Nurunnani, a deputy commissioner of DMP’s DB.
The detectives are also looking for two other accused – Viqarunnisa’s Acting Principal Nazneen Ferdous and morning shift in-charge Zinat Akhtar, he added.
Following the direction of Education Ministry the governing body of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College on Wednesday suspended its three teachers, including acting principal Nazneen Ferdous, over the incident.
The two other teachers are shift-in-charge of morning shift Jeenat Ara and class teacher Hasna Hena.
The ministry has also decided to cancel the teachers' MPOs, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, adding that departmental action will be taken against all the three teachers.
Earlier, morning shift in-charge Jinat Akhtar was suspended and she was served a show-cause notice, asking why action should not be taken against her.
Adhriti Odhikari reportedly committed suicide at her Shantinagar residence in the city on Monday.
The suicidal incident took place as teachers allegedly rebuked Adhriti and her parents as she carried mobile phone during examination.
Adhriti’s father Dilip Adhikari filed a case with Paltan Police Station against three teachers - Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Principal Naznin Ferdous, morning shift in-charge Jinat Akhtar and class teacher Hasna Hena.
The students and guardians of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College went to the street, demanding punishment and removal of its principal and accused teachers over the suicide of its 9th grader Aritree.
They demanded exemplary punishment of the accused for scolding Aritree that led her to commit suicide. They also demanded to bring the accused teachers under trial.
