7 bullet-hit in Savar as extortion money not given

At least seven people sustained bullet injuries as a rival group made attack on an office and opened fire at employees on Thursday morning in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka.

The bullet injured are Apu Ahmed, 23, son of Matin Miah of Sahibagh lane and former general secretary of BCL of Ward No 7, Md Ismail, 27, son of Md Yunus of Majidpur lane, Md Rezaul Karim, 28, Sumaiya Akhter, 22, Dolly Akhter, 39, Alaya Parvin, 28 and Sharif, 26.

On information, the locals rescued the bullet-hit people and sent them to Enam Medical College and Hospital.

Internet businessman and Savar municipal Jubo Dal vice-president Yunus Parvez told RTV Online that he has been running internet business in Shahibagh area for a long time.

Recently, Jubo League leader Russel Madbar, son of organizing secretary of Savar Upazila Awami League Kamal Madbar, demanded Tk 10 lakh as extortion.

As he did not give the extortion money, Russel's men attacked his office and opened fire randomly, leaving seven employees bullet-hit, he continued.

Meanwhile, Russel's father Kamal Madbar alleged that Jubo Dal leader Yunus Parvez and his men shot at his Shahibagh residence as a sequel to previous enmity

They attacked his house and threatened to kill his son Russel Madbar, he claimed.

Contacted, Savar Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Awal told RTV Online that they will take legal action against the culprits involved in the incident after conducting investigation.
