Nusrat murder: former Sonagazi OC Moazzem suspended

Former OC of Sonagazi police station Moazzem Hossain
Moazzem Hossain, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonagazi model police station, has been suspended on charge of negligence of duty in connection with the death of Feni madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi after an arson attack.

Following an order of police headquarters OC Moazzem was attached to Rangpur range DIG office on Thursday after suspending him temporarily.

Police headquarters AIG Md. Sohel Rana said, Moazzem Hossain was temporarily suspended according to the recommendation of police headquarters report.

According to several responsible police sources, police headquarters has taken the action against him on Wednesday according to the revised rules and regulations of 2018 (discipline and appeal). Now he will face the divisional case.

The sources said, a probe committee was formed on April 13 led by DIG S M Ruhul Amin to investigate the negligence of police in connection with Rafi arson attack and murder case. The probe committee submitted the report on May 2 to the headquarters. The probe committee recommended for taking necessary punitive action against Feni SP Jahangir Alam Sarkar, former OC of Sonagazi police station Moazzem Hossain, SI Iqbal and SI Yusuf mentioning their negligence while performing duties.

On March 27 police arrested Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa principal Siraj ud Dowla over allegation of sexual harassment against madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi. Later on April 6 followers of the principal took Rafi on the roof top of the madrasa and set fire on her. Rafi at last succumbed to her injuries on April 10 at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
