BUET student Abrar Fahad was beaten to death in room number 2011 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university. Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders lived there. All are on the run at the moment.
Students of the hall alleged that Abrar Fahad was beaten to death by a group of BCL leaders and activists who are the followers of BUET unit of BCL general secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel.
According to the dormitory sources, Amit Saha, Mujtaba Rafid, Ifti Mosharraf alias Sokal and some third year students were present during the period of interrogation and beating of Fahad.
After coming to the room several others including university unit BCL information and research secretary and fourth year student of mechanical engineering department Anik Sarkar and sports secretary and same year student of naval architecture and marine engineering Meftahul Islam Jion beat for the second round. They all are the followers of Mehedi Hasan Rasel.
In this connection six university unit BCL members were detained.
But four names were known. They are general secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel, vice president Fuad Hossain, information and research secretary Anik Sarkar and sports secretary Meftahul Islam Jion.
BCL BUET unit assistant secretary Ashiqul Islam Bitu said, Fahad’s involvement with Chhatra Shibir was found after searching his facebook account and inbox. He also said that Fahad also gave ‘like’ to Shibir controlled facebook page ‘Bansher Kella’. He claimed that at around 8:45 pm he went out of the room.
On condition of anonymity one room met of Fahad said, I came to my room at around 9 pm after completing my tuition. At that time Abrar was not in the room. I came to know that BCL ‘brothers’ called him in the room number 2011. Later at around 2:30 am a student of the hall came and asked whether Abrar is my room met or not. As I said yes then he asked me to go to the room close to the stairs. After going there I found Abrar lying on a mattress in the room. Later doctor came and declared him dead.
Sher-e-Bangla Hall Provost Professor Zafar Iqbal Khan said, I came to the hall after receiving phone of the physician. I came here and found the dead body lying. The doctor said that he was no more. Later the dead body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with help of police.
Meanwhile, Rokeya Khatun, mother of the slain student Abrar Fahad, claimed that her son had no enemy. Their whole family members are followers of Awami League politics. She demanded exemplary punishment for her the murderers of her son.
But police found evidence of beaten to death in connection with the incident. This type of evidence was found in the preliminary investigation, said DMP Additional Commissioner Krishnapada Roy.
He said on Monday afternoon that several Chhatra League leaders were detained in connection with the incident. Nobody will be spared, no matter which identity they bear, he added.
