Foyzul put on 10-day remand

Police have taken Foyzul Hasan, who attacked Shahjalal University Professor Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal on 10- day remand.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Horidas Kumar on Thursday passed the order in presence of Foyzul after police prayed 10-day remand for him. Foyzul Hasan was shown arrest in the attempt to murder case of Dr. Zafar Iqbal.

Officer in Charge of Jalalabad police station and Investigation Officer of the case Shafiqul Islam confirmed the information of Foyzul’s remand.

Earlier, Foyzul was discharged from Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital at around 11 am. He was undergoing treatment for four days there. Different law enforcing agencies interrogated him during the period. Police got some important information from him. OC of Jalalabad police station Shafiqul Islam also informed.

Foyzul Hasan alias Foyzur stabbed from back on the head of Dr. Zafar Iqbal on last Saturday at around 5:40 pm in an ongoing program on Mukta Mancha in Shahjalal University campus.

After the attack Foyzul was beaten by the students and handed over to law enforcing agency. The injured Dr. Zafar Iqbal was first taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Later in the night, following direction from the Prime Minister he was brought to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. At present he is out of danger.

In primary interrogation the attacker Foyzul admitted that he attacked prominent writer and Professor Zafar Iqbal following direction from a fanatic forum named ‘Dawah Illallah’. He also informed that regular discussions also took place within the group to kill Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal.
