Onion price should not be more than 55 taka: Commerce Minister

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, price of onion should not be more than 55 taka. We are considering about fixing the price of onion.
He said this to the newsmen while answering questions at the ministry meeting room at the secretariat on Wednesday.
He said, 438 tons of onions have reached in the country on Wednesday through Teknaf from Myanmar. The price is 42-43 taka per kg. We hope that there will be a positive effect in the market within 2 to 3 days.
The Commerce Minister said, monitoring teams are watching the stock situation. The government could not think that onion import would stop from India. So the situation is created. The government will take steps to stop onion import during the season of onion in the country.
He also said, the business of opportunist businessmen has to be stopped by not purchasing onions and own production has to be increased.
