‘Private investment to be encouraged in budget’
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that this year the budget will be people oriented. Attention will be given in budget so that investment would increase. For this private investment will be encouraged as well as government investment.
He said these at a view exchange meeting with the leaders of Chattogram Chamber at World Trade Center in the port city on Saturday.
The NBR Chairman said, this year the size of budget will be big. The target of revenue collection set by the government should be met up.
He said, the businessmen demanded for decreasing tax in some sectors but it could not be done in all the said sectors. After reviewing tax will be reduced in some sectors and it will be increased in some aspects.
Mosharraf Hossain said, many businessmen demanded for advance income tax waiver. We are considering about coordinating the advance income tax for specific commodities by not keeping it on the same level. The demand of decreasing duty on raw materials is under experiment.
Chattogram Chamber president Mahabubul Alam presided over the view exchange meeting. 148 proposals related to duty, 30 proposals related to VAT and 48 proposals related to income tax were upheld to the NBR Chairman on behalf of the chamber. Chamber leaders and businessmen were present in the meeting.
