Singer Shammi Akhtar passes away
Noted singer Shammi Akhtar has passed away. She breathed her last on Tuesday (16 January) afternoon. Shadow of grief has come down in the music arena following her death.
Husband of Shammi Akhtar Akramul Islam informed the matter to Rtv online on Tuesday afternoon.
Shammi Akhtar was suffering from cancer for the last five years. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also extended her hands of assistance for her treatment. But at last she departed by making all afflicted by sorrow.
Shammi Akhtar’s starting in singing with help of Ostad Gauro Babu from Barisal. Aftermath she learned song from different persons in different times. The beginning of her play back song career in the film ‘Oshikkhito’ with help of director Azizur Rahman.
‘Ami jemon achhi temon robo bou hobo na re’ and ‘Dhaka shohor aisa amar asa puraichhe’ these two songs of the film made her popular among the audiences. The songs were written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar and tuned by Satta Saha.
From then she sang nearly 3 hundred playback songs. Of her popular songs there were – ‘Bidesh giya bondhu tumi amay bhuilo na’, ‘Mone boro asha chhilo tomake shonabo gan’, ‘Valobaslei sobar sathe ghor badha jay na’, ‘Ei rat dake ei chand dake hay tumi kothay’, ‘Amar Moner bedona bondhu chhara bojhe na’, ‘Ami tomar bodhu tumi amar shami khodar porei tumay ami boro bolei jani’, ‘Ami jemon achhi temon robo bou hobo na re’, ‘Amar naye par hoite lage sholo ana’ and others.
Shammi Akhtar got married to Akramul Islam on February 22, 1977. They have two children.
Shammi Akhtar was awarded the National Film Award in 2010 for her title song in the film ‘Valobaslei ghor bandha jay na’ directed by Jakir Hossain Raju.
She will be buried at the Shahjahanpur graveyard after holding Johr prayer on Wednesday. Before that her body will be kept at the house of Shantinagar. Her husband Akramul Islam said this.
He said, we are trying to burry her at the Shahjahanpur graveyard. If that is not possible than we will burry her at the Azimpur graveyard. Her Janaza will take place at the Aminbag Jame Mosque.
