The 24th Milan film festival is going to begin from October this year. In this festival scheduled to be held in Milan, Italy feature film ‘Janmabhumi’ (The Birth Land) is formally selected. The festival will begin on October 4 and will continue till October 10.
In this festival films made on migration, climate change, environment and fiction drama were urged to submit from across the world. Apart from the competition a number of films will be screened in this festival.
Three films will be screened in this festival from Bangladesh. Apart from ‘Janmabhumi’ there are ‘Gahine Baluchar’ and ‘Jannat’. Recently information ministry through a notification has requested to send subtitle included CD, DVD or pendrive of the films to the ministry.
Rawnak Hasan, Saira Akter Jahan, Sangeeta Chowdhury, Angkan Chakma, Joynal Jack, Pamela Ketchar, Nasir Uddin and others acted in the film in different characters. The film is directed by Prashoon Rahmaan.
The story of the film ‘Janmabhumi’ is created based on the Rohingya refugees sheltered at Kutupalong in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh who were evicted from Rakhine state of Myanmar. In August 2017 when Myanmar army originated large scale mayhem over Rohingya people then to save their lives nearly 11 lakh refugees entered Bangladesh leaving their homeland. Of them 65 thousand women were pregnant and many were raped by Myanmar army members. Bangladesh government erected refugee camps at Kutupalong for their shelter. Now all of them are dreaming the same- to return to their Birth Land. The film was created based on such story.
Earlier ‘Janmabhumi’ was screened Dhaka International Film Festival and Bangladesh Film Festival in Kolkata of India, International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto, 20th Rainbow Film Festival and some other festivals. The film is created under banner of Bengal Multimedia and Syed Ashik Rahman is the Executive Producer.
