Quota reformist leader Faruk arrested

Faruk Hossain, joint convener of Bangladesh General Student Rights Protection Forum was shown arrest in a case of torching motorcycle. He is a masters student of Disaster Management department of Dhaka University.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relation) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter to the media.

On Saturday last the leaders and activists of general students’ forum were preparing to hold a press conference in front of Dhaka University central library for their demand of issuing gazette notification on quota reformation. At one stage Chhatra League activists attacked the students and assaulted them. At that time a motor cycle was burnt on the spot. Mentioning that the motorcycle was Special Branch’s (SB) police have shown Faruk arrest for the arson attack case.

When the quota reformist students tried to gather at central Sheheed Minar premises, Chhatra League activists also attacked on them. Several students were injured in the incident. At that time a Chhatra League activist took Faruk to Shahbag police station on his motorcycle.

On Saturday another forum joint convener Nurul Haque was assaulted by Chhatra League activists when the quota reformist agitating students tried to hold protest.

Besides, on Sunday Chhatra League legal affairs secretary Al Nahian filed a case against forum joint convener Rashed Khan under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act. Later police arrested him and produced before the court. The court granted five days remand for him.
